Seniors’ survey to identify support gapsThe Reconnecting Seniors Network survey will help provide information about what is and isn’t working for seniors and help support funding requests and support projects.

The Reconnecting Seniors Network is encouraging people aged 65 and over to participate in a survey it is currently running.

It is the first survey of its kind to be run in ten years and it is “aimed at learning what is working and what could be improved for our aging population,” Reconnecting Seniors Network said in a statement.

The network, working with Community Networks/LINK, applied to the Ministry of Social Development to fund a contract for the survey, which is being created, administered and by evaluation consultant Anna Williams.

“We look forward to using new data to drive funding requests and support programmes and projects based on identified needs,” the network said.

Late last year the Reconnecting Seniors Network (formerly the Champion for Older Persons Group) received support from The Te Hau Toka Southern Lakes Wellbeing Group to bring Wānaka a 12-month programme to support ‘active ageing’, social participation and healthy lifestyles, and encourage seniors to feel connected and involved in their local community.

It was in response to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, which Community Networks/LINK manager Kate Murray said at the time had left a significant number of seniors feeling isolated, lonely and vulnerable.

Anyone who is 65 or older and lives in Wānaka at least six months of the year is encouraged to complete the survey here.

By completing the survey they can also go into the draw for a $100 New World voucher.

Seniors can also find a monthly calendar of events, recreation and support resources at the Community Networks/LINK website.
