Thirteen Te Kura o Tititea Mt Aspiring College (MAC) students have received scholarships to help assist with the cost of higher education.
The local students were among 50 students from across the region who received $2,500 each from the Central Lakes Trust for training beyond high school at an event in Cromwell yesterday (Tuesday October 24).
CLT awarded 11 vocational scholarships, 30 tertiary scholarships, and nine Pioneer Energy science and technology scholarships.
“We’re delighted to support our region’s young people in pursuing further education,” CLT chair Linda Robertson said.
MAC recipients included Lily Ashe, Melia Brett, Jackson Duguid, Jessie Winter, Thomas Benson, Tayla Doran, Hazel Murray, Isabella Soper (academic scholarships); Jeremy Curtis, Kalan Nichol, Milly Lewis (vocational scholarship); and Bradley Gendall and Samuel Parry (science and technology scholarship).
“Each of the 50 recipients are highly deserving of these scholarships, and we wish them all the best for their future studies,” Linda said.
Students from the five high schools in the CLT region could apply through their school.
The selection process took into account factors such as the applicant’s academic record, overall qualities, and achievements.
“Success doesn’t come from academic results only,” Linda said. “By looking at the students’ overall achievements we can award students who display excellence in all areas of life.”
Over the past 17 years, CLT has provided 684 rangatahi with tertiary scholarships to the value of more than $1.6M.
The total value of this year’s scholarships was $125,000.
Central Lakes Trust is a charitable trust that grants funds for charitable purposes.
