Preventing Community Spread of COVID-19 (Health)

Everyday there is an increasing number of people identified as testing positive for COVID-19. We have been reassured by the Ministry of Health that these cases have all been related to overseas travel. With the government introduction of self-isolation for those coming into New Zealand after 1am on Monday 16th of March, this will aid in slowing or stopping a community spread. Therefore, flattening the curve.

Prior to this date restrictions of self isolation had not been put in place (even though now it is recommended by the government). This has led to concern within the community that we are at risk when we are out attending to our every day shopping and activities. So to help here is a way that you can help decrease the risk of community spread.

It is also important to discuss social distancing. This term has recently been changed to physical distancing. It needs to be made clear that during this time it is only important to keep yourself physically distant from others. It is important for our mental health and wellbeing to have human contact. In this technologically developed world this should be easy.

Continue to check in on each other through social media, connection apps and email. Support and be kind to each other. If you know someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, treat them as you would want to be treated. No one is immune from this, but we can work as a community to support each other and our health workers to prevent the risk of a community spread.
