Popular natural cleaning workshop returnsAn upcoming Wastebusters workshop will help attendees learn to make simple, cheap and sustainable cleaning products.

What if your cleaning cupboard was healthier for your whānau, cheaper to stock, and free from single-use plastic?

That is the idea behind Wastebusters’ popular Natural Cleaning Workshop, which is returning on Wednesday October 8 after selling out in June.

“People are often surprised by how easy and affordable it is to make their own natural products,” Wastebusters communications manager Ruth Blunt said.

“The workshops are always lively and inspiring, and it is great to see the community coming together to learn new skills.

“Last time we had people saying they went home and completely rethought their cleaning cupboard.”

Participants will roll up their sleeves for a fun, hands-on evening creating natural cleaning products that are easy to make and effective.

From everyday essentials like all-purpose sprays and laundry powder to household favourites such as toilet pods and scented jars, the workshop will show how easy it can be to make products that are healthy for whānau and kinder to the environment, Ruth said.

The event is part of Wastebusters’ Low Waste Living programme, which helps locals find practical ways to cut down on single-use plastics, reduce toxins in the home and save money through simple, sustainable habits.

Many of the recipes are safe to make with children, as they do not include harsh chemicals or synthetic fragrances. It is a great way for families to get creative together while learning new skills for the home, Ruth said.

“Our delicious spread of low waste food will be back, including our famous dahl, seed crackers and pea dip, and of course we will be sharing those recipes too.”

Guests will also take home their own cleaning creations, along with a pick from a table of sustainable goodies.

The Natural Cleaning Workshop will take place on Wednesday October 9, from 6-8pm at the Wānaka Community Hub; tickets $10. Find more information and book here.
