Police are appealing for help from the public as they investigate a series of suspicious fires in Albert Town on Saturday September 20.
Detective Phill Hamlin, of Otago Lakes Criminal Investigations, said the fires were believed to have been intentionally lit and posed a serious threat to residents.
“These fires were mere metres away from housing where people were at home and many were in bed. They have had to run from their homes. Their lives and homes have been put at risk by these actions,” he said.
Significant damage was caused to telecommunications infrastructure, while nearby houses and vehicles were at risk.
