Police release name of man killed in Wānaka crash

Police can confirm the man who died in a road crash yesterday morning near Wānaka Airport was Martin Charles Te-Au, 39, of Wānaka.

The accident took place at about 4.20am on State Highway 6 just north of Wānaka Airport.

“The deceased was the driver of the vehicle and sadly died at the scene,” NZ Police said in a statement. “They were the only occupant of the vehicle.”

Police will be making enquiries in relation to the death on behalf of the Coroner, who will release their finding in due course.

A second car accident took place on SH6 yesterday, at the bottom of the cutting west of the Dublin Bay turnoff.

No one was injured in the second crash on SH6.

Police responded to a call-out at approximately 9.10am.

“Vehicles initially blocked the road but were moved to the side quickly allowing traffic to flow freely,” NZ Police said. “No one was injured in the incident.”
