Approximately 50 people braved nine degree waters and plunged into Lake Hāwea on Sunday (July 4).

The polar plunge was an inaugural community fundraiser, organised by Ann-Maree Chatterton.

The Lake Hāwea boat ramp jetty (next to the camping ground) hosted costumed jumpers as well as brave souls in just swimsuits.

A hot tub was welcomed by those who had braved the water.

There was music, MCs, hot soup and a spa pool for those who needed to thaw out.

Ann-Maree thanked the following people for supporting the event: Colleen Carr (hot food and organisation); Brent Arthur (first responder, rope throw and gazebo); Rick Deaton of LandEscape (hot tub); Hayley Marie from WanakaBounce (inflatable slide); John Taylor and Kevin Duke (rope throw); Janice Milburn, Sandra McAuley and Darlene Thomson (hot food & registrations); Andre Meyer (photography and lifejackets); Slater Hodges (MC); Shane MacLeod (speaker); Amanda Grace (music); and Linda Mitchell from Mr Whippy.

She also gave “a huge thank you to all of the people who turned up to jump into that frigid water”.

A colourful line up.
