Plastic Free Wanaka has launched a new website to make it easy to learn about reducing plastic waste.
The local non-profit’s mission is to cut down on single-use plastic in Wanaka and further afield and the new website has tips and tricks to help individuals do just that.
“It sports our waste-free shopping guide, a list of all the cafes where you can borrow a cup if you forget yours and where you can find our SUC [single use cup] free Wanaka bullet cups,” Plastic Free Wanaka representative Anna Van Riel said.
Plastic Free Wanaka initiatives like ‘Plastic Free Paula’, the organisation’s mascot, and ‘Waste Free Wanda’, a waste-defeating superhero for kids, are also showcased on the new site.
Anna said this additional content means locals of all ages can learn from the website.
“We’re just so incredibly chuffed to have this beautiful new website,” Anna said.
“It’s been a long time coming, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of some amazing people who put lots of love and energy into bringing it together.”
The website was created with the support of Michelle and Nathan Veasey from Envy Web + Design and the Plastic Free Wanaka team worked with Honest Wholefoods founder and marketing specialist Nicola Cross to bring the content together.
Plastic Free Wanaka plans to add to its digital offerings in the future.
“Our future goal is to swap out our downloadable waste-free shopping guide for an interactive one that also serves as an app. It will be so amazing to offer a resource where folks can punch in a product and are shown waste free options locally.”
Anna said Wanaka was doing an “amazing” job at cutting down on plastics like single-use cups.
The new website’s launch is timed to coincide with the end of Plastic Free July, an initiative encouraging individuals to slash their plastic use for the month.
