Wānaka Pointe Central dancers came back from a recent competition with a huge medal haul, and the local competitors achieving 13 first place scores among them.
The Upper Clutha dancers travelled to Dunedin at the start of May to compete in the Mosgiel Ballet Society Competitions, adjudicated by Sarah Foster-Sproull from Auckland.
Pointe Central owner Briony Martin congratulated the dancers for their hard work and “outstanding results”.
Some standout performances were made by Isabel Martin, who earned seven first places, two seconds, and received the ‘most promising overall’ trophy, and Charlotte Martin, who earned four first places, one second place and the ‘most promising 8-10 years’ trophy.

Fellow Pointe Central dancers Audrey Cretney, Annabelle Grant, Coco Hocking, Timothy Heiler, Vinnie Vickers, Ruby McLachlan, Mia Waite, Sophie Walsh and Priya White also received accolades from judges.
The dances competed across a range of styles - from classical to modern jazz and demi character.
Briony said Pointe Central dancers also got the opportunity last weekend to collaborate with NZ Youth Ballet Company dancers.
The NZ Youth Ballet Company Workshop, which featured Abigail Boyle, attracted dancers from Cromwell, Alexandra and Invercargill.
The collaboration included a two and a half hour workshop with former Royal New Zealand ballerina Abigail Boyle.
It was attended by 15 local dancers as well as students who travelled from Invercargill, Cromwell and Alexandra to attend.
Pointe Central is a classical ballet coaching academy in Wānaka.
