Police have advised that one person has died following a crash this morning on State Highway 6 through the Kawarau Gorge.

The crash was reported at 7:42am.

Another person is in a serious condition.

The road is expected to be closed for some time (Update 2.06pm - the road is now open).

The Serious Crash Unit is at the scene.
