Leading swim coach Thomas Ansorg was on hand to share his knowledge with members of the Wānaka Swim Club (WSG) at their stroke clinic and club camp earlier this month.

Thomas has been a coach at three Olympic Games as well as the personal coach of 15 New Zealand Olympic Games swimmers and WSG was grateful to have his guidance.

As well as teaching technique clinics with the club’s competitive swimmers, Thomas was a guest speaker at a function for parents where he spoke about being parents of competitive swimmers and how to fully support them.

“Wanaka Swim Club has been lucky to have Thomas join us for our stroke clinics and camp,” WSC spokesperson Ben Bagley said.

WSC coaches Jackson Reardon, Cameron Stanley and Belinda Donaldson, as well as the club committee, also made the most of Thomas’s visit by getting his counsel on coach education, mentoring and club structure.

“The club all had a great time and learned a lot from Thomas,” Ben said. “We hope he will be back again soon,” Ben said.

Following the stroke clinic the swim club held its annual swim camp at Wānaka Scout Den.

“This was a great opportunity for the athletes to stay together, train, and complete a number of activities as well as enjoying the amazing weather that was on show at Eely Point,” Ben said.

WSC caters for swimmers starting in competitive swimming through to national level, as well as fitness focused swimmers.
