New Zealand String Quartet brings Beethoven to WanakaNZSQ members Helene Pohl, Monique Lapins, Gillian Ansell and Rolf Gjelsten.

The New Zealand String Quartet (NZSQ) is bringing Beethoven back on his 250th birthday.

As part of a huge New Zealand tour, the NZSQ will be performing at the Lake Wanaka Centre on July 7.

The NZSQ is acclaimed worldwide for its performances of Beethoven’s music.

In its 32-year history, the quartet has forged an international reputation for insightful interpretations, compelling communication, and dynamic performing style.

The Australian, among many other publications, had nothing but good things to say about NZSQ.

“A quartet to match the finest anywhere...it’s hard to imagine that anyone hearing these four players would not be instantly captivated by their living, breathing musicianship.”

Meanwhile, the Nelson Mail calls them “a treasure” and the Straight Times called them “one of the leading string quartets in the world.”

Their tour will run from June to October across the country.

The NZSQ is brought to the Upper Clutha by the Wanaka Concert Society, which was formed to present concerts and other entertainment for our local community.

“Our aim is to support our arts culture by promoting the enjoyment and encouragement of the performing arts,” Kate Lovell said.

The Wanaka Concert Society now has a website, where you can see its schedule for the remainder of 2020.

Tickets for NZ String Quartet celebrates Beethoven's 250th Birthday (7.30pm, July 7) can be purchased via Eventfinda, at Gifted Design on Helwick Street, or through cash door sales prior to the concert. Adult tickets cost $35 and students and children can attend for free.
