New top cop glad to be hereWānaka Police senior sergeant Fiona Roberts

Senior sergeant Fiona (Fi) Roberts started in her role as Wānaka’s top cop on Monday (April 8), and said it was “great to be here”.

Fi has worked in the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and as an Armed Offender Services (AOS) commander, among others, and has a home base in Wānaka.

“I’ve been part of this group for a long time [so] there will be a brief settling in period. I’m absolutely grateful to be here, [it’s] a great station full of really hard working people.

“I’m here to stay: get used to the face,” she said.

“If you see me then please make yourself known. Everyone’s welcome at the station - hopefully as visitors.”

When not in uniform Fi enjoys an outdoor lifestyle, including diving, fishing, and hunting. She is currently learning how to fly a helicopter.

Her sidekick spaniel Walt is also pleased to be full-time in Wānaka, and has issued a warning to the rabbits at Sticky Forest: “Watch out.”

Wānaka police has two sergeants, Darren Cranfield and Kim Chirnside, and 16 full time employees (mainly sworn officers). There are also a few authorised officers on staff, Fi said.
