A group formed for friendship and connection is setting up an offshoot group for The Jones generation.
The Jones targets people born between 1954 and 1965 and has been instigated by organisers of the Wānaka Social Meet Up which was established two years ago and now has 648 members.
“There's a gap in Wānaka for pre-seniors so I created a filler,” organiser Steph Holloway said.
“I think we’ve got ten members as we stand today.”
Steph said she figured out through her work that a new generation has been acknowledged in the last few years called The Jones, which does not identify with the Gen X or Boomer generations.
“It’s no secret I’m 61, I’m thinking where’s my tribe, where’s the people I wanted to meet when I first started this [Wānaka Social Meet Up] and I couldn’t see them,” Steph said.
The Jones group is already active and has its own Facebook page.
Steph said they have a breakfast catch up and a wine catch up organised, and she expects things like pub quizzes, coffee meet ups, pot lucks, and beach bbqs to happen as the group grows.
“There’s lots of lonely people in Wānaka who just want to connect with other humans,” Steph said.
“So knock yourselves out, come and join us. You’ll find somebody to do something with.”
