New gymsports space set to become ‘regional hub’AGS is seeking support for its $225,000 fundraising target for the kit out of its new premises in the Youth, Sports and Community Facility in the former Mitre 10 building.

Aspiring Gymsports (AGS) is more than halfway towards its fundraising goal for kitting out its new gymsports space.

The club is due to move from its current 280m2 space to a 780m2 site within the new Youth, Sports and Community Facility in the former Mitre 10 building.

ASG founder Rae Paterson said the new space will become the “regional hub” for gymsports in Central Otago and support the ever-growing number of local AGS members.

The club is one of two key tenants which will occupy the former Mitre 10 building once the $4.15M renovation is complete.

Money raised so far has paid for fit-out essentials including a new competition quality, fully sized sprung floor which is currently being delivered from Europe.

“The full sprung floor is a community asset which is also critical to the success of the new, larger gym,” Rae said.

“The floor is essential for all of our community users from schools and early childhood centres, enabling whole class visits from primary and secondary schools.

“It will also allow AGS to become a regional hub for gymnastics, a place where Central Otago competitions can be held, raising funds for the gym while reducing the need for our gymnasts to travel to gym competitions.”

Over the past year AGS raised more than $126,000 of its $225,000 fundraising goal.

“We still have some way to go to fill the new gym with safety crash mats required to fill a larger gym, and equipment for our growing recreation programmes,” Rae said.

She said the club was seeking donations from patrons and business sponsors, which would be recognised with signage in the new venue.

Rae also thanked the individuals, groups, non-profit organisations who had helped with fundraising so far.
