The newly minted Wānaka Upper Clutha Community Board: (from left) Niki Gladding, John Wellington, Nicola King, Cody Tucker, Kathy Dedo (deputy chair), Simon Telfer (chair), and Chris Hadfield. There was a mix of familiar and new faces as the Wānaka Upper Clutha Community Board (WUCCB) members made their official declarations yesterday (Tuesday November 4).
Four of the board members are entering their second term - Simon Telfer, John Wellington, Chris Hadfield, and Cody Tucker - and they are joined by new members Kathy Dedo, Nicola King, and Niki Gladding.
Nicola, Cody, and Niki are also Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) Wānaka Ward councillors. The fourth Wānaka councillor, deputy mayor Quentin Smith, is not a board member but will attend the meetings.
Simon was re-appointed as chair of the board, and Kathy was appointed as deputy chair.
The group was “looking forward to a really successful term of the community board”, Simon said.
Following the candidates declarations, QLDC general counsel Brendan Peet outlined the laws affecting the board. He also noted upcoming reforms which will have an impact on the board, including that of the Resource Management Act (RMA), local government, and water services.
New QLDC mayor John Glover said the board’s local community role (to represent residents and advocate for their interests to the council) was an important one.
The next meeting of the WUCCB will take place on Tuesday December 16 at Whare Mahana (Luggate Memorial Centre), from 10am.
