The generous donation of a new car will help charitable trust Food for Love reach even more people.
The Hugo Charitable Trust last week presented Food for Love with a generous donation of a new, $34,000 Suzuki Vitara.
“Food for Love is very grateful to the Hugo Charitable Trust for their gift helping us support people facing challenges with a warm, delivered meal,” Food for Love executive officer Bex Sarginson said.
The local charitable trust provides home-cooked meals for people in need. It was started nearly six years ago as a volunteer organisation by two local women.
Food for Love now recruits volunteers to provide meals, prepare bulk cooked meals, and deliver meals.
In addition, the organisation provides the supplementary weekend meals for the elderly when these meals are not otherwise supplied.
“From a few neighbourhood meals to 4,600 meals to date in a year, Food For Love is a significant undertaking,” the Hugo Charitable Trust said in a statement.
The Hugo Charitable Trust was established in May 2017 by Maryanne Green, the eldest daughter of Irish philanthropist and businessman the late Hugh Green, known in Ireland as
Hugo.
Maryanne set up the Hugo Charitable Trust to continue Hugh’s philanthropic legacy and to give back to the people of New Zealand.
“We are so fortunate that Alice Watson, granddaughter of Hugh Green, referred Food for Love to the Hugo Charitable Trust.
“Alice recognised the need for a vehicle to support Food for Love in its work.”
