The head of Snow Sports NZ has stepped down.


The Snow Sports NZ board has announced that Jan Shearer has resigned from her role as the Snow Sports NZ CEO, and Friday October 23 was her final day in the role.



The board said in a statement they were sad to see her go, but were grateful for what she had done for Snow Sports NZ during three years in the CEO role. 


“A three-time Olympian, silver medallist and accomplished sports administrator, Jan has built cohesion across the competitive snow sport disciplines, especially in the Alpine sector,” the Snow Sports board said in a statement.

“Jan has supported the continued growth in the international competitiveness of New Zealand’s snow sports athletes and led the team through the unprecedented lockdown period.” 


High performance director Nic Cavanagh has taken up the role of acting CEO.


Nic will be working with the board to consider how best to shape the executive team and its support functions for the future of Snow Sports NZ, the board said.


The board will be meeting in the coming weeks to formally elect a new chairperson, and its priority is to ensure a smooth transition for both the CEO and the chair.


In the interim Jacqueline Cheyne will be acting as the Snow Sports NZ board contact.


Snow Sports NZ is the national sporting organisation representing the interests of adaptive snow sports, alpine ski racing, cross country skiing, freeskiing and snowboarding. Its purpose is to lead the growth and success of competitive snow sports in New Zealand.
