Netball: Men too good for Dunstan ADunstan A GK Jed McIntosh contending for the ball against the men GS Brad Grant

The Ground Up Brewing Men’s netball team had too much size and physicality for Dunstan A in their A Grade netball match on Friday (June 4) winning 52-37.

It was never going to be an easy match for Dunstan with the men’s side improving every time they take the court and holding a physical advantage with their height.

To combat the men Dunstan brought along their ‘secret weapon’ in the form of Jed McIntosh, reportedly the first male to play netball at Dunstan. Joining the team as Goal Keep (GK), Jed offered Dunstan additional height and elevation.

It was still difficult to beat the height the men have in the shooting circle. In contrast to this, the men’s GD Chris Gilfedder had another outstanding game. Going from strength to strength, Chris is increasing the strength of their defense and making it increasingly difficult to get the ball into the shooting circle, let alone shooting.

It was tough with the men taking a first half lead 32-16. However, not giving up, Dunstan took the third quarter 12-10.

In other matches Hawea A, the only side to defeat the men and the defending A Grade champions, continued their winning streak with a 36-26 win over Cromwell A. Molyneux A 66 defeated Pioneer A 30.
