Hawea is shaping up as the local hope in the Netball Upper Clutha A grade competition after an emphatic 41-26 win over Cromwell A on Thursday (July 23).

Hawea, along with Dunstan A and Molyneux (both from Alexandra) are the only unbeaten sides after three rounds.

After a close first quarter Hawea extended their lead, outscoring Cromwell by 9 goals in the second quarter and 7 in the third. The new look Cromwell side, with just four players back from last season, finished the match strongly but it was too little too late.

Defence was the highlight of the match, with Cromwell GD Marijike Topping in outstanding form. For Hawea, Samantha Morgan (GK) was named player of the match.

Hawea combined well in the defensive third, constantly disrupting Cromwell’s attacking efforts.

Scores:

Men’s Team 52 Pioneer 32

Cromwell A 26 Hawea 41

MANC A 39 Molyneux 50
