Defending netball A grade champions Hawea A began their 2021 campaign with a 37-32 win over Molyneux A at the Wanaka Recreation Centre on Friday night (May 14).
Both sides contested the A grade grand final last year and the match was expected to be hotly contested. The sides did not disappoint.
The match was close throughout with Hawea leading at halftime 17-14 before Molyneux took control through a dominant shooting end to take the third quarter 10-6 and close out the quarter with a one shot advantage 24-23
Hawea’s experience showed in the final quarter with a composed performance, slowing the game down and respecting possession to add 14 goals and take the win.
The Upper Clutha Netball A Grade will again feature seven teams including a mens side which made its debut in 2020.
Due to Netball New Zealand rules the men's team can play against the women but cannot contest the competition.
