Mitre 10 Mega Wānaka came away with a top award at recent Business South Awards held in Dunedin.

The store, nominated for the Excellence in Retail category, won against a field of strong nominees.

The Business South Awards is an annual event that celebrates the achievements of businesses in the Southern region across a wide range of categories. 

The Excellence in Retail win was recognition of the store’s commitment to be a premier retailer in the region, Mitre 10 Mega Wānaka said in a statement to media.

Store general manager Mark Watson said he was “very proud of the entire store crew, across all departments”.   

“Our store’s vision is to inspire Kiwi to love where they live, work and play - and we have high expectations of ourselves to do this,” he said. 

“It’s a big deal to be acknowledged publicly for this and I couldn’t be prouder.”

The Wānaka store celebrated its second birthday at its Three Parks site last week.

Other nominees in the Excellence in Retail category included Design Federation and Gilbert’s Fine Food. The Supreme Award for the evening (the ceremony was held on Friday November 18 in Dunedin) went to Oritain Global Limited, a provider of tracking services for products.
