Wānaka’s Victoria Taylor has been running a marathon a day for more than 20 weeks and tomorrow (Thursday August 10) she will break the world record for the most consecutive days to run a marathon (female).
The record stands at 150 which Victoria will equal today. Tomorrow will be her 151st consecutive daily marathon.
“I don't have any concerns [about] making it,” Victoria said.
“I’ve just got to stay positive and strong, is the main thing.”
Victoria said she plans to finish her record-breaking run at the top of Mt Iron.
“I’ll be running all the other kilometres around town that day so people will be able to see me,” she said.
“Those who want to come up [Mt Iron] to see me to celebrate at the top feel free.”
Victoria is on a mission to raise awareness and funds for two charities by breaking the world record.
“I’m doing it to raise awareness and funds for the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand and also the Red Cross to help out the New Zealand Disaster Fund,” Victoria said.
“Givealittle have combined the two causes and will split the money 50:50.”
Not content with just breaking the record, Victoria says she will continue running marathons each day for another 45 days which will smash the record and provide valuable training for her next record attempt.
On September 28, 2023, Victoria will once again attempt to break the record (20 days and 17 hours) for the time it takes to run the length of New Zealand. In 2022 Victoria attempted to break that record, withdrawing for personal reasons.
Breaking that record requires her to run the equivalent of three marathons per day.
If you see Victoria running the streets tomorrow, give her a toot and show your support.
Donations can be made on her Givealittle page.
