Luggate is celebrating its upcoming Olympic athletes with new ‘Olympic rings’ signage.

Both Kim Cadzow and Ellesse Andrews are representing New Zealand in cycling at the upcoming Paris Olympic Games 2024.

Kim (22), who is competing in road cycling, lives in Luggate when she is not working with her trade team in Spain.

She will compete in her first Olympic Games just three years after first taking up road cycling.

Ellesse (24), who grew up in Luggate, will be competing in keirin (track cycling), her second time at the Olympic Games.

She won a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.

Luggate Community Association chair Rod Anderson said it was “great to see the girls achieving their dreams” - and to be “from a little place like this”.

“We wish the girls all the best in their endeavours,” he said.

Rod said Kim’s parents had taken the initiative to put up the sign at the entry to Luggate, which now features messages of support from Luggate residents.

Kim’s parents will travel to Paris to watch her compete, her father David told the Wānaka App.

“We’re really excited that Kim has this amazing opportunity and are looking forward to being there to watch,” he said.

“Things have moved quickly for Kim since taking up cycling, and she wouldn’t have got there without the help of local Wānaka coach Patrick Harvey and Black Magic Cycling.

“We can’t wait to see her lining up against the best in the world and representing New Zealand in Paris.”

Kim and Ellesse form part of the 16-person group representing New Zealand in track and road cycling at the upcoming games, which will begin on July 26.
