The Wānaka Waterski Club performed well in the Bannockburn Slalom on Saturday (February 12) in a field of 25 competitors.
The Bannockburn tournament is an important fixture in the skiers' preparation for the New Zealand National Waterski Championships and the local club made good use of the training opportunity.
Locals Dean Morrision, Katrina Pollard, Katrina Wallis, Gerald Harraway, Genevive Wallis and Meg Harraway recorded great scores during the tournament held at the Bannockburn Inlet.
Gerald Harraway put up a good fight in the Senior Men’s 2 category against Chris Brown (Timaru) and Steve Wayne (Christchurch) for a third place finish.
New Zealand representative Meg Harraway posted an excellent score of three buoys on the 12 metre line in her first tournament of the season.
Katrina Wallis (11) took out the Under 14 Girls division with a personal best of four buoys at 52 kph, two courses ahead of twin sister and second place getter Genevieve Wallis, whose personal best was four buoys at 46 kph.
Dean Morrision and Katrina Pollard also enjoyed the mostly calm conditions, skiing consistently over the three rounds.
The upcoming national champs will be held at Lake Crichton, Dunsandel, on March 22-27.
The Wānaka Waterski Club said in a statement it is grateful for the recent Lion Foundation grant enabling it to continue to maintain its two slalom courses, located in Paddock and Parkins Bays.
The club was re-incorporated last year to support and encourage passionate local waterskiers.
