A light 3.6 magnitude earthquake caused slight shaking in Wānaka tonight (Sunday, February 8).

The earthquake struck at 10.42pm just south of Luggate at a depth of 5 kilometres.

GeoNet described it as 'light', although one Luggate resident said it "felt like a truck hitting the house".

An Albert Town resident told the Wānaka App it sounded like "a loud bang and our whole house shaking".

There have been no reports of damage.
