Library membership drive offers ‘wealth of resources’The first-ever membership drive is taking place for the district’s libraries.

Join Queenstown Lakes District Libraries this March and get a free library themed lanyard plus the chance to win a $100 grocery voucher.

Queenstown Lakes District libraries manager Sue Gwilliam said the library team is excited to kick off the school year with the special invitation to everyone in the community.

“Join us and thousands of existing library members in embracing the power of learning, connection, and wellbeing by signing up for a library card,” she said.

“It’s free to join and you have access to any of our library branches across the district.”

This is the library’s first membership drive and Sue said there are many benefits to being a library member.

“In a world where every cent counts, your library card opens doors to a wealth of resources, entertainment, and information,” she said.

“From online movies and global newspapers to car repair manuals and virtual reality experiences, our libraries offer something for everyone.

Queenstown Lakes District libraries manager Sue Gwilliam said having a library card opens the doors to “a wealth of resources”, from paperbacks to online movies and global newspapers and car repair manuals to virtual reality experiences.

“We’ve got plenty coming up too – including a brand new offering called 'Library of Things,' featuring unique items like telescopes available for borrowing,” she said.

Last month community group Friends of Wānaka Library celebrated ten years of support for the library and founding member Kate Bariletti said the library played an important role in the community.

“It’s becoming a hub - there’s really something for everyone. The librarians are doing such creative things,” Kate said.

The librarians have also embraced technology, she said, and “there are lots of ways to connect to the library that are modern and contemporary”.
