Leak caused wastewater to gush down SH6 Crews undertaking cleanup work on Thursday morning.

Council officers and contractors are still working to resolve a wastewater leak which occurred at the Albert Town pump station yesterday (Wednesday January 10).

As the result of a suspected problem with the pump pressure main, wastewater gushed from the station near the Mt Iron roundabout and flowed downhill along State Highway 6, Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) said.

This morning (Thursday January 10) traffic cones were in place at the corner of Aubrey Road and the highway and contractors were still undertaking cleanup work.

Yesterday the council said it was unsure if wastewater had entered the Clutha River.

QLDC media and channels advisor Sam White said the council will provide an update later today.
