Last weeks for public transport trialThe local community shuttle trial - which has two services and costs just $2 - is running until August 18.

Community Networks/LINK and Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) are encouraging the community to take part in the local community shuttle trial which is running until August 18.

The shuttle has two services, each available for just two dollars: a 25-minute Hāwea-Wānaka express route; and ‘intra-city’ loops connecting the health centre, Three Parks, Albert Town, Northlake and Anderson Road to the Wānaka CBD.

“It’s great to see the express service being well-used – the driver has even had to turn people away because the bus has been full,” Community Networks/LINK community development coordinator Joanna Perry said.

“However, we’d love to see more people making use of the intra-city loops service.

“If you live in Wānaka, Northlake or Albert Town, why not leave the car at home and hop on the shuttle when you next grocery shop, meet a friend for coffee or attend a health appointment?”

Earlier this month it was announced that a new advisory group had been established to advise on public and active transport matters.

The information from the community shuttle trial will help inform the group’s discussions around the future of public transport in the Upper Clutha - and residents and visitors alike can help build the case for change by using the service as much as possible during the trial period.

Members of the public can provide feedback on the Community Networks/LINK website.

“We know the schedule might not be ideal for everyone,” Joanna said. “Our data is stronger when we can show why that is – so please complete your rider feedback survey or head to the contact form on our website to tell us what is and isn’t working for you.”

The community shuttle trial is coordinated by Community Networks/LINK and delivered by Yello! with funding from QLDC and Lake Wānaka Tourism.
