Last chance to ‘shelve your fines’Wānaka Library is participating in the ‘shelve your fines’ amnesty, which will conclude at the end of the month.

Residents have only a few days left to take advantage of an amnesty on fines running during December at local libraries.

Every item donated during December’s ‘shelve your fines’ amnesty will wipe $10 worth of overdue book fines.

Donations can include anything from non-perishable food to vouchers or toiletries.

“All items received will be delivered to three fabulous local charities who do an amazing job supporting our communities throughout the year,” QLDC districts librarian Sue Gwillam said.

The annual initiative helps both community groups and the wider community.

Donations made in the Upper Clutha go to Community Networks Wānaka/LINK Food Bank, who will distribute the donated goods to people in need.

The ‘shelve your fines’ amnesty has been running for over ten years “and it always gets a great response”, Sue said.

“It seems especially important to do this again this year given that so many seem to be having a hard time financially.”

Participating is as simple as dropping into the library with a donation, Sue said, but don’t wait as the new year is fast approaching.

Charges for DVDs and lost or damaged books are not included in the fines amnesty.
