Children from all around the Upper Clutha have been busy writing letters and drawing pictures for older people in our communities, who may be feeling isolated and lonely right now.
The initiative, ‘Letters to Prime Timers’, is the brainchild of the Upper Clutha Senior Citizens Club, a not-for-profit organisation that offers social support and advocacy for people 60-years-old and over in our region.
Members of the club can attend regular meetings and outings including shopping trips and wine tours.
Prime Timers administrator Claire Dooney said local kids have sent in some “pretty awesome” letters and works of art.
“These have helped our Prime Timers to stay connected with the community and have certainly brightened the days in their bubbles.”
Claire said members of the club ranged from those who live in the local retirement villages to older people who live in their own homes in and around Wanaka.

The older people have loved receiving the letters, she said, so if you are a parent or a child who would like to send a letter or drawing to an older person, please email [email protected].
One club member wrote back to Claire to say thank you: "These letters and pictures are precious. They are a moment of lightness in my long days. I am alone in my bubble, not even a pet, so knowing these kids are aware of my challenge fills me with hope. Love to all of them."
