Luggate’s Oxbow Adventure Aquatrack hosts the third round of the New Zealand Jet Sprint Championships on Saturday January 25.
Competitors and spectators from all over New Zealand are expected to bring their boats to Lloyd and Julie Ferguson’s property near Wanaka Airport for the weekend event organised by the New Zealand Jet Sprints Association.
The Southern Jetsprints Club is also promoting a Jetsprint Fun Day for club members using pleasure boats on Sunday January 26.
It will donate a percentage of tickets sold to Australian Red Cross and the Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service, in support of those fighting Australia’s fires.
Heading the Group B development class after two rounds are the New Plymouth duo of Kris Rasmussen and Holly Sutherland, with 59 points.
Southern Jet Sprint Club husband-and-wife team Clayton and Mandy Tisdall, of Tapanui, are sitting in third place in Group A.
The hard-fought Group A class, sporting boats with bigger jet units, wider cam shafts and larger carburettors, is led by Hamilton driver Ollie Silverton and navigator Jess Sit, with 60 points.
Southern club competitor Si Gibbon, of Canterbury, with Whanganui navigator Donna Thompson, is presently in second place in Group A. Tapanui husband-and-wife team Clayton and Mandy Tisdall are in third place.
Leading the exciting, 1000-plus horsepower, methanol-injected Superboat category is Featherston farmer Scott Donald, with accountant Nicole Reesby as navigator.
The championship series is being held at six venues around New Zealand and will be decided in Whanganui on April 4.
