Wānaka Police senior sergeant Fi Roberts says new constable Katrina Johnstone brings a varied skill set to the role that is “just magic”.
Katrina was interested in joining the police force when she left school but she was advised to get some life experience by working in a different industry first, and her interest in working with children made teaching a natural choice.
Her time as a teacher included a period working at local high school Te Kura o Tititea Mt Aspiring College, which means she will be a familiar face to some local families.
After a “really enjoyable career” in education Katrina decided it was time for a change and she entered the police force.
That new career has now brought her back to Wānaka and Fi says Wānaka Police is lucky to have her.
“Those transferable skills she has, especially with youth, are just fantastic,” Fi said.
“She’s a living, breathing example of exactly what we are after.”
Outside of work, Katrina likes running, socialising with friends and spending time with family.
