Police on trail of damageThere were two reports of damage on Plantation Road, and one on Kings Drive last night.

Wanaka police are seeking information relating to damage along Plantation Road and Kings Drive overnight (Monday December 28).

A Wanaka resident used social media this morning to ask if anyone’s property suffered damage last night, or if people had security cameras in the Plantation Road area.

“We have woken up to a smashed window and police would like help with anything that may assist them,” the resident said.

A police spokesperson told the Wanaka App there were two reports of damage overnight on Plantation Road and one on Kings Drive.

Police visited the sites this morning after the damage was reported.

Other social media comments cited letter boxes damaged at the Plantation Road end of Kings Drive.

Three other comments referred to groups of young people in the area: “roaming teens” on Beacon Point Road, escorted by police; a group of young boys at 1:00am damaging letter boxes on Kings Drive; and a group of five to six boys kicking bottles along Kirimoko Crescent at 1:00am.

A police spokesperson has warned locals that parents and caregivers must supervise young people who are drinking at all times.

Parents and caregivers could face fines of up to $2,000 if they supply alcohol to under-age and unsupervised teenagers.

“Remember, you can’t supply minors with alcohol unless you have the permission of their parent or legal guardian,” the spokesperson said.

There are 37 additional police staff deployed in Wanaka during the holiday season.
