Have your say on the future of the artsThree Lakes Cultural Trust, which has organised arts events in the region like RenewArt, is asking for the community to have their say on the future of arts in the region by attending an upcoming hui.

Three Lakes Cultural Trust is encouraging locals to participate in a hui it is hosting in Wānaka in June.

The hui will provide a chance for locals to have their say in the future of arts, culture and heritage in Queenstown Lakes, Three Lakes Cultural Trust chief operating officer Samantha Kirks said.

It aims “to encourage conversation and to ensure many voices are heard in the development of an arts, culture and heritage strategy for our district,” she said.

Formed three years ago, the trust aims to foster new arts and culture initiatives across the district.

It has spearheaded initiatives like RenewArt,an art exhibition featuring local visual and performing artists, and piloted a week-long Arts in Schools programme where 340 schools learnt from professional artists, among others.

The hui (which will take place on June 8 at the Lake Wānaka Centre) will be led by facilitators Johny O’Donnell and Kate Smith.

It is one of six hui taking place across the district to help inform the Arts, Culture and Heritage strategy, Samantha said.

The strategy will then be presented to council and recommended as part of the 2024-2034 annual plan, she said.
