Hamish Elliott dominates Coast to Coast Longest DayHamish Elliott celebrates after winning the men’s 2026 Kathmandu Coast to Coast Longest Day.

Wānaka athlete Hamish Elliott has claimed a commanding victory in the 44th Kathmandu Coast to Coast Longest Day, overcoming a fall from his kayak to win one of New Zealand’s toughest endurance events on Saturday (February 14).

The 31-year-old took control early during the opening 55km cycle stage from Kumara to Aitkens in Arthurs Pass and extended his lead on the mountain run over Goat Pass, building a 10-minute advantage over rival Sam Manson.

Hamish’s biggest challenge came on the paddle down the Waimakariri River, where he fell from his kayak.

“I just went through some rapids and had a momentary lapse of concentration," he said. "It probably made me pedal a bit harder because I knew I had lost a bit of time.”

Despite the setback, he maintained his buffer and extended his lead on the final cycle into Christchurch, finishing 20 minutes clear.

“I promised myself I’d enjoy it for as long as possible and I literally did," Hamish said.

“I’m just stoked to be here.”

Hamish finished in 11:10:04, more than 10 minutes faster than his 2024 winning time.

Race director Glen Currie said the performance was “world class”.

“To take control from the opening cycle… shows incredible composure and strength.”

Hamish’s win follows his 2024 title and 2025 runner-up finish behind Alex Hunt, cementing his place among the event’s standout competitors.
