The circle shows the location of the earthquake south-west of HaastA 4.2 magnitude earthquake near Haast caused light shaking in Wānaka this morning.
It was enough to wake people from their sleep with many reporting it on the GeoNet website.
The quake struck at 3.38am 45 kilometres south-west of Haast at a depth of 5 kilometres.
GeoNet described it as 'weak' and there are no reports of damage.
