Guthrie Bowron meet the team - Paul Tamati (Decorating)Paul finds inspiring customers rewarding.

Last but certainly not least let's meet well known Wanaka local - Paul Tamati, Trade Manager.

How long have you been in Wanaka?

I first came to Wanaka in 1993 for a New Years Eve street party in upper Ardmore street. At the time there were no rules and fewer regulations, yet this small town was more accepting. The town soon sprawled with subdivisions and attracted a more diversity of people and their professional attributes. The development of vibrant cafes, restaurants and retail outlets. The leading attractions are still the clear and brighter atmosphere, the barren commanding mountains and the clean blue lakes and rivers. The ease of clearing the mind is at our back door and personally, that is my favourite local activity.

What's trending now?

We are trending towards the decadent tones of russet and berry from our Dulux Indulge palette and influenced also by the loading of Porters alfresco colours that leave the traditional sheens behind preferring the matt or flat look, and the feeling of being more daring and expressive. Lets not forget the majority of the colour schemes are still whites and neutrals.

Professional passion?

It's such an exciting industry to be part of. Each area of our business is varied and different but at the end of the day combine to create the perfect home for our customers.

The level of detail in the makeup of paint, stains, polyurethanes and their systems is highly sophisticated. Wallpaper however is a lot more user friendlier to hang and the design range is out of this world as the choice is endless. Even your favourite family photo can be transposed onto wallpaper. The best customer service for me is when the customer leaves our premises filled with confidence and creativity, bursting with inspiration and trusting of our advice. Personally it is about building relationships and extending friendships for a lifetime.

One piece of decorating advice you would give?

If there is one piece of decorating advice I would give, that is to CREATE A VISUAL STORYBOARD. What is the STORY that you hope to achieve? Glue colour swatches, wallpaper samples to a board. Staple different pieces of fabric and textiles beside each colour swatch. Add kitchen joinery samples and other fixture samples and images. Write down why you like that colour, how that makes you feel. Do the same with the fabric etc. Keep focussed on the STORY, because someone will be asking the questions when your decorating is completed. Own it because you deserve it, so let’s chat and bring your dreams to life.
