Installation of a new water mains pipe and pump station will result in the closure of Golf Course Road to the general public for five days from Tuesday February 8, and a further 11 weeks of traffic disruption as the road will remain closed to traffic travelling one way.
Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) says the work will improve the drinking water supply and infrastructure in the western area of town.
“Like any large construction project, there will be some disruption for residents while this
infrastructure upgrade is underway,” QLDC property and infrastructure general manager Pete Hansby said.
“We’ll make every effort to get the job done as quickly as possible, with minimal disruption.”
Pete said that while residents along Golf Course Road will experience some inconvenience “individual access to properties will be maintained, as well as access for emergency vehicles and rubbish trucks.”
The pipeline will run along Golf Course Road, Ballantyne Road and Macpherson Street before crossing State Highway 84 and continuing a short distance up Anderson Road.
The closure of Golf Course Road will be at the intersection with Cardrona Valley Road. During this time access to Golf Course Road will be via Ballantyne Road.
Once the pipeline has been installed past Rodeo Drive residents of Aspiring Lifestyle Retirement Village will regain access and egress from Cardrona Valley Road.
After the five day full closure Golf Course Road, the road will be reopened to only one lane of traffic for a further 11 weeks, with work on the road expected to be completed by the end of April.

During this time, all traffic travelling from Cardrona Valley Road to Ballantyne Road on Golf Course Road will be diverted down McDougall, along Brownston and back up Ballantyne Road. Only traffic travelling from Ballantyne Road to Cardrona Valley Road will be permitted.
Pipeline work will then continue along the remaining streets.
The pump station will be located on Wānaka-Mount Aspiring Road, opposite Bills Way and earthworks for the pump station will start at the end of February.
Both the pump station and pipeline are expected to be complete by the end of 2022.
Works are being undertaken by council contractors HEB Construction.
