Fundraiser shows ‘power of collective giving’ The Spice Room is one of nine local businesses donating a portion of sales from a ‘Plate Up’ dish to Food for Love this month.

Locals can dine out while contributing to a worthwhile charity this month, with the ‘Plate Up For Love’ fundraiser now underway.

Throughout November, eight Wānaka restaurants have a ‘Plate Up’ dish on their menu and every time a customer orders that dish, a portion of the purchase price will be donated to local food charity Food for Love.

Dishes include fajitas at Amigos; open roast beef sandwich at b.social; beef burger at Edgewater; chargrilled steak at Hello Ranger; grass-fed eye steak at Tititea Steak House; margherita pizza at Urban Grind; butter chicken at the Spice Room; and the special at Relishes.

The eateries will donate between two and three dollars from each plate to Food for Love.

“This initiative really demonstrates the power of collective giving,” Food for Love general manager Jodie Stuart said.

Food for Love delivers free, home-cooked meals to people in need.

“Not only do you get to enjoy a really delicious meal, but a donation will automatically come back to Food For Love and help us to continue preparing free meals for those in our community who are going through unexpected or challenging times.”

Food for Love has teamed up with Bayleys Wānaka to deliver ‘Plate Up For Love’, which is based on a similar initiative in Christchurch.

“We are incredibly grateful for the generous support from Bayleys Wānaka and the amazing eateries who are participating in the Plate Up For Love campaign,” Jodie said.

In a statement Bayleys Wānaka said the team was blown away by the support of local businesses getting behind this initiative.

“We’re grateful for the generosity of all the venues taking part in Plate Up for Love this year,” Bayleys Wānaka said.

“Our team are looking forward to dining out and enjoying some delicious meals this month in support of the cause.”
