The annual Take a Kid Fishing Day is coming up on November 23.Boat rides, barbecues, and a bit of friendly competition are all on offer when the Upper Clutha Angling Club hosts its annual Take a Kid Fishing Day later this month.
Children aged eight to 12 will spend the day exploring the lake, casting their lines from boats, and joining in games at the Kidds Bush campsite.
Prizes will be awarded for the longest and most accurate cast, and everyone will enjoy a barbecue lunch - complete with fruit and toasted marshmallows.
“This is very much a fun day for kids and parents alike,” the Upper Clutha Angling Club said.
Supported by Otago Fish and Game, the event will be held on Sunday, November 23, starting at 9am at the Albert Town campsite.
Children will then travel to The Neck, at the top of Lake Hāwea, where small groups will be taken on two-hour boat trips across the lake.
The day is expected to finish at about 4pm.
There is a limit of 40 children and registrations are accepted on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
Children will be fully supervised by Upper Clutha Angling Club members and by any volunteer parents who are free to attend.
“Parent help for transport and on shore is always welcome,” the club said.
Email [email protected] for an authorisation form and return it by November 17.
