A free, beginner-friendly event by Wastebusters taking place tomorrow night is designed to help people learn about mending alongside company.A new Wastebusters event invites members of the community to slow down, get cosy and rediscover the joy of mending.
Wastebusters’ ‘fixing fairies’ will take over the taproom at Rhyme x Reason tomorrow night (Tuesday November 4) with a relaxed, social evening of stitching, patching, button-sewing and shared know-how.
It’s a free, beginner-friendly event, with no judgement and no pressure, Wastebusters event organiser Celine van der Eecken said.
Just bring an item of clothing you’d love to repair yourself, along with any sewing supplies you already have, she said.
“We wanted to create a space where those who enjoy mending could come together and have a proper social time,” Celine said.
“It’s different to our Repair Revolution - this one is intentionally slower, gentler, and all about sitting together, swapping tips and building confidence in doing it yourself.”
Guests are welcome to bring thread, needles, patches, buttons or zips, and work at their own pace with encouragement and light guidance from the fixing fairies.
The focus is on connection just as much as repair, Celine said.
She said Rhyme x Reason’s warm tap room provides the perfect setting, drink in hand, conversation flowing and old skills being kept alive.
The Fixing Fairies event will take place at Rhyme x Reason tomorrow night (Tuesday November 4) from 6pm-8pm.
Celine asked attendees to register for the event so Wastebusters can keep track of numbers.
This Resourceful Communities event is supported by Queenstown Lakes District Council’s Zero Waste District Programme.
