‘Fix-it’ superheroes sought for Repair RevolutionThe Repair Revolution will return to the Upper Clutha in September and November and Wastebusters is looking for more volunteers willing to help out.

Volunteers with a fix-it ‘superpower’ are being called on for the next round of Repair Revolution events in the Upper Clutha.

Repair Revolution events give people a chance to have their broken items fixed or to receive advice on how they could be repaired, helping to keep items in circulation for longer.

In the past year alone, 400 items have been repaired at the local events - everything from a coffee machine to a bicycle and plenty more.

Wastebusters’ event coordinator Celine Van Der Eecken said two more Repair Revolution events have been scheduled (for September and November) following a winter break.

“Our volunteers and community are the heart and soul of these events,” she said.

Celine said volunteers have told Wastebusters they love connecting with like-minded people and celebrating successful repairs.

“They appreciated the goodwill from those who get their items repaired and the friendships they form with fellow fixers.

“Most importantly, they come for the community vibe, the opportunity to learn new skills, and the rewarding experience of fixing things.”

The upcoming Repair Revolutions will take place at the Wānaka Community Workshop and Fabricate on Sunday September 22 and Sunday November 10 (both from 10am-2pm).

Wastebusters is seeking a diverse range of fixers for the event, from sewing experts to bike enthusiasts, electricians to furniture restorers - or whatever ‘fix-it’ skill they have to offer.
