Adventurous father and daughter duo Jarrod and Maddi Frazer will join 59 other teams to drive a classic Mini the length of the country this March in aid of children’s charity KidsCan.
The Pork Pie Charity Run is inspired by Kiwi film Goodbye Pork Pie, and participants travel the length of New Zealand, about 2,400km, in just six days.
Team Lake Wanaka, with Jarrod and 17-year-old Mount Aspiring College student Maddi, will make the trip from Paihia in Northland to Invercargill just before Easter.
“We took part in the previous rally in 2019, and we are one of the lucky teams to register in time to take part in the 2021 event,” Jarrod said.
Team places on the charity run - now in its seventh year - are hotly contested, with registration selling out in less than eight minutes for this year’s race.
“We know it’s going to be a memorable six days, a lot of travelling obviously, but a whole heap of fun.”
The fundraising and car preparation have already started, and Jarrod and Maddi hope to raise more than $5,000 which is why they’re starting a couple of months out from the event.
Money raised will go to KidsCan, which exists to meet the physical and nutritional needs of Kiwi kids living in hardship.
The charity’s mission is to provide the essentials to Kiwi kids affected by poverty so they can participate in learning and have an opportunity for a better future.
“We’re fortunate enough this year to have some terrific sponsors on board making our entry possible including Breenhomes, No Limits Wanaka, Home and Co, Pukka, and Auto Logistics,” Jarrod said.
The Pork Pie Charity Run raised almost $300,000 for KidsCan during the 2018 and 2019 events.
Jarrod and Maddi will hit the road for their second charity run on March 26.
