The Wanaka Skate Park has been even busier than usual since an extension to the park opened last week.
The extension, which has nearly doubled the space for street-style skating, also has new features, including a ‘mellow bank’, ‘two stair’, ‘down rail’, ‘quarter pipe’ and ‘banked hip’.
Councillor Quentin Smith called the new park “absolutely fantastic”, noting that it was described at the opening as “one of the best in the country”.
Deputy mayor Calum MacLeod said the “excellent facility” was probably the busiest in New Zealand during winter.
