Exploring the future of electric vehiclesOana Jones will explore electric cars from a performance, environmental and financial point of view.

The Wanaka Royal Society’s next talk will cover an emerging trend: the move toward electric vehicles.

Full dome producer at the Otago Museum Oana Jones will lead the talk, which will be held on Friday (November 6).

New Zealand is in a unique position for the adoption of electric cars, Oana says.

“With a lot of cheap imports, a majority of our power generation from renewable sources, and a national network of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, EVs are becoming more and more of a popular option for motorists,” she said.

Oana will explore electric cars from a performance, environmental and financial point of view.

She has volunteered with the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) as an ‘EV-angelist’ and she is secretary of the Otago Electric Vehicles Society.

Oana also collaborates on the YouTube series ‘Charged As’ which focuses on New Zealand (electrical vehicle) EV stories.

Members of the local EV community will be available after the talk. They will bring their vehicles and be available to answer questions and give demonstrations.

The talk ‘Electric Vehicles’ will take place next Friday (November 6) at the Presbyterian Community Centre. It will begin at 6pm and entry is $5 per person.

The Royal Society of New Zealand is an independent, statutory not-for-profit body in New Zealand providing funding and policy advice in the fields of sciences and the humanities. It regularly hosts visiting experts talking on topics of interest and importance to New Zealand.
