Wānaka dance school Dance Wānaka will showcase its students this weekend with performances of Willy Wonka at the Lake Wānaka Centre.
Dance Wānaka director Anna Thomas said the performances are inspired by the book and movie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
“We’ve had lots of fun creating and dancing as sweet tasty delights and colourful fictitious characters,” Anna said.
“It’s the highlight of our year, and the dancers love the opportunity to perform on stage to family and friends.”
The show has been split into three short entertaining shows: The Candy Shop, The Golden Ticket, and The Chocolate Factory, with performances on Saturday and Sunday.
Dancers will perform a wide mix of dance styles from classical ballet, modern jazz, hip hop, contemporary, acro and tap.
Willy Wonka will be performed by Holly Gibson (18) who is a senior dancer in the school.
Holly Gibson (18) performs as Willy Wonka.
“Holly is such a talented dancer and has been an outstanding role model within the school and Wānaka community. She will be sadly missed,” Anna said.
