Crimeline

Good morrow townsfolk of Wānaka and surrounds.

The past 14 days since our last musings has seen various things go on, as per the norm for our job.

Here is a bit of the stuff we’re allowed to share.

Shoplifters strike again. They obviously missed the memo that our arrest book is filled with captured criminals of that nature. CCTV exists so I’m sure we’ll be adding their name to our registry in due course.

Some of the young’uns have been causing some grief around the place. Minor threats and general odd behaviour that draws our eye, I hope us meeting them curtails the shenanigans.

A domestic incident resulted in an arrest. We take these things seriously and are out to protect the people exposed to the violent spouse – man or woman. Two others were reported to us, and some outside agencies are involved.

A suspended driver was seen by an off-duty member so they’ll be seeing us shortly. Another one was nabbed also, and they have since left town.

An afternoon visit to the park gave some parents a scare when the kidlets well and truly won the game of “run away and hide from mum”, although I’d say they cheated by going way out of bounds.

Several Officers and members of the public looked for these munchkins for over an hour before they were found safe and well. Another reminder to lock your home doors lest a pair of three-year-olds get into your stash of essential oils and turn your floor into a slip-n-slide!

You might recall us talking about the break-ins to some food trucks on Brownston Street. A lot of work has gone into identifying those involved. They have been arrested and are appearing in court this week with some serious explaining to do.

Six drink drivers were caught on a Thursday evening recently. While the level of drink driving differed, with some getting tickets and some getting court dates, what was common amongst them all was the flagrant disregard for law-abiding driver’s coming towards them. Keep other drivers safe by sticking to the rules, as they are for you. That goes for all of you too that I see on your phones when I’m on days off.

Anyways take care. Thanks for being a great bunch of people to serve and have a great week.
