There are 289 new cases of Covid-19 in Queenstown Lakes district, bringing the total number of active cases to 1,650.
Across the Southern District, there are 1,459 new cases, and a total of 8,448 active cases (not recovered from the past seven days).
The Southern District Health Board (SDHB) does not provide a breakdown of cases within Queenstown Lakes so the Wānaka App cannot provide specific figures for the Upper Clutha.
There are 85 new cases in Central Otago; 95 in Clutha; 400 in Dunedin; 70 in Gore; 280 in Invercargill; 135 in Southland; and 105 in Waitaki.
There are 16 people with Covid-19 in hospital in Dunedin and six in Southland.
The SDHB says modelling predicts we may still not have reached our peak in the Southern district and there is the potential that case numbers could continue at around current levels for a short while yet.
Now is not the time to get complacent regarding public health measures, the SDHB said.
“It is more important than ever to continue to wear a mask in public, follow good hand hygiene, practice physical distancing and, if feeling sick, get tested and isolate at home until you receive a negative test result.”
Communities throughout the Southern district have pulled together in a collective effort to protect families, communities and loved ones from Covid-19, the SDHB said.
“We still have vulnerable people in our communities who could suffer adverse effects because of Covid-19 infection. When you are out and about in our beautiful district please think of these people and wear a mask and stay home if you have symptoms, have tested positive for Covid-19 or are a household contact of a positive case.
“By continuing to work together we can all continue to protect our most vulnerable.”
