Concept plan revealed for LDP stage fiveA portion of the concept plan for stage five of the Lakefront Development Plan.

The concept plan for stage five of the Lakefront Development Plan (LDP) has been released for public feedback.

Stage five covers the lakefront adjacent to the marina and yacht club, one stage in a long-term, five-stage project to rejuvenate the Wānaka lakefront and make it more user friendly.

The concept plan shows a continuation of the newly completed stage three shared pathway which will run through to the yacht club and the start of the Eely Point track.

Native revegetation is also proposed for the area, with planting to be undertaken along the bank between that runs alongside Lakeside Road in the area.

“The concept plan envisions a safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists to make their way past the Wānaka marina and the yacht club, while also enhancing the journey for people heading between Beacon Point Road and Wānaka town centre via Eely Point,” QLDC general manager community services Thunes Cloete said.

Stage three of the LDP, spanning Bullock Creek to the Wānaka marina, officially opened earlier this month, featuring a shared pathway and native planting.

It was the second of the five stages of the LDP to be completed.

Planning is also underway for stages two and four.

Thunes said he was thrilled to begin engagement on stage five and said he encouraged the Wānaka community to have their say and continue to help shape the future of the lakefront.

The concept plan and feedback form for stage five of the LDP is available on QLDC’s Let’s Talk website as well as at Wānaka Library and the council offices at 47 Ardmore Street.

Feedback will close on stage five at 5.00pm on Sunday November 7 and a feedback review will follow.
